Steering Committee Update: November 2015

The NPU Steering Committee held a scheduled Skype meeting on 16 November 2015. The meeting discussed a range of issues relating to the governance and use of NPU terminology.

Terms of Reference (ToR):

The ToR for the Steering Committee were updated to reflect greater User involvement. The amended document may be found here

International Survey:

A survey is being conducted in the 90 IFCC Member countries to understand the extent to which there is a national perspective on laboratory terminology.

Strategic Plans for 2015 and 2016:

The NPU strategic plan for 2015 was reviewed and it was noted with satisfaction that several items have been completed. The document is available here. Discussion commenced on the content of the strategic plan for 2016 and this will be completed at the next meeting.

NPU Website:

The successful launch of the NPU website was reported and discussions held to agree how to keep it updated with fresh news

News from National Release Centres:

  • Sweden: Plans to implement NPU terminology across Swedish laboratories have commenced with the lead role being taken by Equalis
  • Denmark: Following a rearrangement within the Danish Health Authority NPU in Denmark is now part of the Danish Health Data Authority (DHDA). An additional staff member has been employed.

Proposed Article for Clinica Chimica Acta

A review article will be prepared to explain why systematic terminology is important for laboratory medicine and patient care. The review has been prompted by the imminent publication of the updated reference text entitled ‘Compendium of Terminology and Nomenclature of Properties in Clinical Laboratory Sciences’.
